Specialties of Sarawak food..

I have always been a great fan of food especially when it comes to all the hot and spicy stuff.. I came from a very big family which originally from Sarawak, the biggest state in Malaysia. I am here to share specialties of food in Malaysia and i will start it of with foods in Sarawak.

What is Sarawak without the Sarawak Laksa.. It is one of the spicy dish of Sarawak. It is made up of the laksa paste where you can get it from the supermarket which cost only about RM 3.30 for a small packet and RM 5.30 for a big packet. You will also need some coconut milk and prawn sauce.. The ingredient needed are only some eggs, chicken, prawn, lime, beans sprout(optional), and some gravy for taste..How does it actually taste like? Well, it's a little sour, hot and spicy and best serve when it's really hot.

Next on the list is our Special Mee Jawa. The taste is really nice..a little sweet and spicy. It's gravy is made from sweet potato.
The ingredients are usually a boiled egg, some chillis, bean sprout(optional), meat or chicken. It all depends on who is eating it..and it tops with some fried onion. i can tell you that it taste as good as the Sarawak laksa. It's superb.

Bee Hoon Belacan is what we call it. Belacan is actually Shrimp paste where we can make a lot of things out of it like bee hoon belacan of course, gravy, dips and lots more. But here , i'm only going to tell you about Bee hoon belacan. It's as easy to do as the rest of the Sarawak dishes. All you need is some shrimp paste, some onion, chilli and garlic where you need to mix and grind it all up. Then, get it into the pan and fry it , add some tamarind juice and fish sauce..There is your sauce. One tip on making the sauce is that, the longer you boil it, the better it would be. All you need for the ingredients are some Bee hoon noodle, cucumber, cuttlefish ( other option - chicken). That's all..This is a must try dish when you head down to Sarawak.

Enough of all those hot and spicy food, let's try the Sarawak Kolok Mee. This is meant for those who doesn't like hot and spicy food but still enjoys food.. Kolok mee is really famous here because you can only find it here. They do sell it elsewhere in Malaysia, but the taste is completely different.
The main ingredient is of course the noodle it self where you can get it from the supermarket for as low as RM 1.50. All you need to do is boil the noodle and then mix it up in a bowl with some white pepper, a TBS of oil, soy sauce. As simple as that. Then, to enhance the taste, add some black pepper meat which you need to cook seperately. Or you can add up any side dish according to your preference.

Let's get something sweet after a long chapter of hot and spicy..Next is our famous ABC..which means Ais Batu Campur. This is a local dessert where it's a combination of jellies and corn and a topping of ice, evaporated milk and some grenadine. It's the number one dessert here and this is also another must try dessert when you're here. Don't leave Sarawak without it cause it taste better than it looks.
